In class, we read the play Romeo and Juliet. The book was from past times, it was the kind of book where people wore funny costumes and used swords. Characters were also polite, they used a respectful language. For example, Romeo presented himself to Nurse as a gentleman, as someone parents would love, except for the family he was in. As it was past times, the setting was also antique, and the fact that parents chose who her daughter married was applied in the story. The book also described with actions done by the characters, that Romeo and Juliet´s love was passionate and unconditional, and it was so real that both gave their lifes to be with each other, despite the family feud.
We also watched the movie in class, it was different from the book we read. The movie was from modern times, character´s costumes and the way they acted and talked proved it, also the setting shown was from a place of nowadays. Characters from the movie were more violent and more risky, and some scenes were also more descriptive. An example of how characters were risky, is the first scene of the movie that was not in the book, the one of the fight between Montague and Capulet in a gas station, guns were shown and used which also gives an example of the modern times. An example of a scene that was more descriptive in the movie, was the one of Romeo and Juliet´s marriage, it was shown completely and not only told partially as in the book. Even there were a lot of differences, obviously the story matches, the family feud was presented and the unconditionally and passionate love between Romeo and Juliet was shown.
Personally, i preferred the book version of this story, because the movie did not catch my attention as the book did. Also, the movie description that i personally give is said in one word expression we commonly use in Colombia to express something negative about what is being described, ¨boleta¨. The movie was more focused in violence and in showing guns. The book was more sensitive, showed more accurate the passion in the love between Romeo and Juliet.
